Charming bookstore hidden away in an alley.
Walk into what feels like your grandma’s living room and take your time wandering through the wide selection of books and treasures. When the legendary Bookman's Alley announced it was closing after 33 years, Evanstonians and book lovers near and far lamented the loss of such an iconic bookshop, and it was fitting that the author-and-librarian couple who stepped forward to transform the shop into its new life as Bookends & Beginnings are themselves Evanston residents. Don't miss their collection of children's books from around the world and be sure to check out their events calendar.
Local produce and more.
The seasonal farmers' market is one of the most popular in the North Shore and for good reason. The weekly market brings in the best local produce, meats, cheeses, plants, and more from the Midwest. It's held on Saturdays from the first weekend in May through the first weekend of November.
The harvest is brought indoors for the winter, with the Evanston Ecology Center hosting a smaller version of the market from 8am to noon on Saturdays.
Plants and (much) more.
This fabulous shop is filled to the brim with indoor plants, terrariums, gifts, and attractive home decor. Cultivate’s knowledgeable and friendly staff will help you pick out plants suitable for you and the fickle Chicago climate. There are even classes to help you develop your green thumb, as well as art exhibits and opportunities to meet up with like-minded community members in an inspiring and distinctive space.
